The Reason for Reason
x-posted from Xpatriated Texan – and likely to appear elsewhere.
One of my great pleasures in teaching is holding the class most teachers love to hate. I absolutely LOVE teaching Intro to Politics. Most professors hate it because: 1) Students are not motivated to do much because they are forced to take the class; and 2) The classes tend to be larger than other departmental classes. While I do get overwhelmed sometimes with the extra work caused by the second, I accept the first one as a challenge – and I have never had a single class where at least one student did not say to me at some point in the semester, “You know, Professor, when I started this class I thought politics was total bullshit. Now I’m hooked. I can’t stop caring!”
Ah, if only we could get a million people to say that…
