An Impressive Campaign So Far
John Edwards message of social mobility, economic justice, and morality has made his campaign more exciting, more engaging, and more forceful than I had expected. I believe his abilities have improved enormously since 2004, or maybe I just wasn’t listening close enough. I was a Dean supporter.
With his kick-off in New Orleans, the creation of OneCorps, coining the “McCain Doctrine,” the interactive and impressive website, and this week’s powerful speech at Riverside Church, Edwards has orchestrated a stellar launch to a presidential campaign.
Many other have said this, but I believe that John Edwards has the power to be a transformational candidate. He has the ability to bring a populist message and working-class votes back to the Democratic Party. Not just Reagan Democrats from Connecticut or Michigan, but union members and teachers from Idaho, Alabama, Colorado, Montana, or West Virginia. Edwards’ could forge his own New Deal coalition and chart a new politics for this country. I just don’t see Clinton, Biden, Dodd, etc. doing that.
Now, we wait for the first debates!
